Good Friday: The Passion of Our Lord

The Passion of Our Lord

John 19:

1 Pilate then had Jesus taken away and scourged; 2 and after this, the soldiers twisted some thorns into a crown and put it on his head and dressed him in a purple robe. 3 They kept coming up to him and saying, 'Hail, king of the Jews!' and slapping him in the face. 4 Pilate came outside again and said to them, 'Look, I am going to bring him out to you to let you see that I find no case against him.' 5 Jesus then came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said, 'Here is the man.' 6 When they saw him, the chief priests and the guards shouted, 'Crucify him! Crucify him!' Pilate said, 'Take him yourselves and crucify him: I find no case against him.' 7 The Jews replied, 'We have a Law, and according to that Law he ought to be put to death, because he has claimed to be Son of God.' 8 When Pilate heard them say this his fears increased. 9 Re-entering the Praetorium, he said to Jesus, 'Where do you come from?' But Jesus made no answer. 10 Pilate then said to him, 'Are you refusing to speak to me? Surely you know I have power to release you and I have power to crucify you?' 11 Jesus replied, 'You would have no power over me at all if it had not been given you from above; that is why the man who handed me over to you has the greater guilt.' 12 From that moment Pilate was anxious to set him free, but the Jews shouted, 'If you set him free you are no friend of Caesar's; anyone who makes himself king is defying Caesar.' 13 Hearing these words, Pilate had Jesus brought out, and seated him on the chair of judgement at a place called the Pavement, in Hebrew Gabbatha.  14 It was the Day of Preparation, about the sixth hour. 'Here is your king,' said Pilate to the Jews. 15 But they shouted, 'Away with him, away with him, crucify him.' Pilate said, 'Shall I crucify your king?' The chief priests answered, 'We have no king except Caesar.' 16 So at that Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. They then took charge of Jesus, 17 and carrying his own cross he went out to the Place of the Skull or, as it is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18 where they crucified him with two others, one on either side, Jesus being in the middle. 19 Pilate wrote out a notice and had it fixed to the cross; it ran: 'Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews'. 20 This notice was read by many of the Jews, because the place where  Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the writing was in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. 21 So the Jewish chief priests said to Pilate, 'You should not write "King of the Jews", but that the man said, "I am King of the Jews". ' 22 Pilate answered, 'What I have written, I have written.' 23 When the soldiers had finished crucifying Jesus they took his clothing and divided it into four shares, one for each soldier. His undergarment was seamless, woven in one piece from neck to hem; 24 so they said to one another, 'Instead of tearing it, let's throw dice to decide who is to have it.' In this way the words of scripture were fulfilled: They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothes. That is what the soldiers did. 25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. 26 Seeing his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near her, Jesus said to his mother, 'Woman, this is your son.' 27 Then to the disciple he said, 'This is your mother.' And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. 28 After this, Jesus knew that everything had now been completed and, so that the scripture should be completely fulfilled, he said: I am thirsty. 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there; so, putting a sponge soaked in the wine on a hyssopstick, they held it up to his mouth. 30 After Jesus had taken the wine he said, 'It is fulfilled'; and bowing his head he gave up his spirit.

Holy Thursday: The Last Supper

The Last Supper

Mark 14:12-26
On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 13 So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. 14 Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large upper room, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.” 16 The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
17 When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. 18 While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.” 19 They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely not I?” 20 “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me. 21 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”
22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” 23 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them. 25 “I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.” 26 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

My Super Stylish Fashion Statement

This is me . . . . . . . .

Sometimes, I wonder about myself.  Does that look normal to you?  I would hope not.

The picture above is me, making a fashion statement.  Yup.  Pretty darn fashionable, right?!?!  I totally dig that crazy fro!!! Now, you may be wondering where this amazing ensemble came from, so if you are, I'll tell you.  You see, I was at my grandparents house and was doing my normal routine, which is going through all of my mom's old belongings, which means every drawer, closet, box, bookshelf, or any other place that I might find something cool to look at.  My Grandma keeps some old costumes in my mom's old closet, and while I was going through them, I found an afro.  I immediately put it on, with out even thinking about what I was doing.  Then I thought, "WOW.  This is a groovy fro!"  It looked so stylish, that I had to wear it around!  I just couldn't resist!  So, then where did the rest of my unbelievably wonderful wardrobe come from?  Well, I went back to the closet, got an old jersey, fake glasses, a hat, put ribbons and bows on the back of the afro, and put lots, and lots of necklaces on!  Then went downstairs, and showed off my discoveries of amazingly fashionable attire.  So there you have it!!!  Like I said before, I worry about myself sometimes.  Now hopefully, you understand why.  Now that I have shared this with you, you will most likely worry about me too.  I understand your concern, but don't worry too much, because unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it.  Actually, there's nothing anyone can do about it.  That's just me.  That's who I am.  So I'll make a deal with you.  If you promise not to worry too terribly much, I'll be the best me I can be.  The only problem is that, well that picture is the worst me.  Usually, I at least have more stylish attire.  I wonder what it would've looked like with more afros on top of this one?!?!?!?! ;)

You are Christ (Prayer)

You are Christ (Prayer)

You are Christ, my Holy Father, my Tender God, my Great King, my Good Shepherd, my Only Master, my Best Helper, my Most Beautiful and my Beloved, my Living Bread, my Priest Forever, my Leader to my Country, my True Light, my Holy Sweetness, my Straight Way, my Excellent Wisdom, my Pure Simplicity, my Peaceful Harmony, my Entire Protection, my Good Portion, my Everlasting Salvation.
Christ Jesus, Sweet Lord, why have I ever loved, why in my whole life have I ever desired anything except You, Jesus my God? Where was I when I was not in spirit with You? Now, from this time forth, do you, all my desires, grow hot, and flow out upon the Lord Jesus: run... you have been tardy until now; hasten where you are going; seek Whom you are seeking. O, Jesus may he who loves You not be an anathema; may he who loves You not be filled with bitterness.
O, Sweet Jesus, may every good feeling that is fitted for Your praise, love You, delight in You, adore You! God of my heart, and my Portion, Christ Jesus, may my heart faint away in spirit, and may You be my Life within me! May the live coal of Your Love grow hot within my spirit and break forth into a perfect fire; may it burn incessantly on the altar of my heart; may it glow in my innermost being; may it blaze in hidden recesses of my soul; and in the days of my consummation may I be found consummated with You!

Amen.

Cool Crayon Craft

This is a super cool craft that one of my BFFs, Natalie taught me how to do.

Here is what you need:
  • canvas
  • hairdryer
  • crayons (make sure they are ones that you don't mind not using again. use new crayons if possible)
  • hot glue and hot glue gun
  • a space that can get a little bit messy......just in case :)

Here are the directions:

  • bring your supplies to your "get a little bit messy place"
  • put the glue in your hot glue gun and plug in. let it heat up
  • as quickly as you can, hot glue the crayons to the top of the canvas as high as you can without the backs of the crayons going off the top canvas, so the tip/side that you draw with facing downwards. glur them all the way across the top. try not to leave any space between each crayon. (tip: putting the crayons in rainbow order is an awesome way to do it! it makes it look so super cool!)
  • before the glue hardens, stand your canvas up so that the bottoms of the crayons are facing upwards.  plug in your hairdryer and turn it on. blow downwards on the crayons. the hairdryer will blow the wax down on the canvas. slowly move the hairdryer back and forth about an inch away from the canvas.
  • once the glue alomost completely hardens, you can turn off your hairdryer.
  • clean up all of your supplies, except for the canvas with the crayons. leave it out to dry.
  • once it's dry, put it on display and enjoy!!!!!
Here is a picture of one:

-Matthew 7:7

"Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are My disciples."

-John 13:35

"I am convinced that nothing can ever separate from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

-Romans 8:38-39

"The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?

-Psalm 27:1

"I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of Me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world."

-John 16:33
